Description
Grandma’s Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce is a comforting dessert made with soft bread, eggs, milk, and sugar, all baked to perfection and served with a rich and creamy vanilla sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups cubed day-old bread (preferably white or brioche)
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 3 large eggs
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
- Fold in the cubed bread and melted butter. Let the mixture sit for 10-15 minutes so the bread can absorb the custard mixture.
- Pour the bread mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
- While the pudding is baking, prepare the vanilla sauce (instructions below).
- Let the bread pudding cool slightly before serving, and drizzle with the homemade vanilla sauce.
Notes
- For added flavor, you can stir in raisins, chopped nuts, or other dried fruits before baking.
- If you prefer a softer bread pudding, add more milk or cream to the custard mixture.
- The bread pudding can be made a day ahead and reheated in the oven before serving.
