Ingredients
Scale
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
- 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp fresh rosemary, chopped (plus extra for topping)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil (for greasing the bowl)
- 1 tbsp butter (for brushing after baking)
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until the yeast becomes foamy.
- Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and chopped rosemary. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Stir to combine, then knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Grease a large bowl with olive oil, place the dough inside, and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Rolls: After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and roll them into balls. Place the rolls into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish or on a baking sheet, leaving a little space between each roll.
- Second Rise: Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise for about 30-45 minutes, or until puffed and doubled in size.
- Bake the Rolls: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.
- Brush with Butter: As soon as the rolls come out of the oven, brush them with melted butter and sprinkle with extra chopped rosemary.
- Serve & Enjoy: Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- These rolls are best enjoyed warm, but they can also be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat them in the oven for a few minutes before serving.
- You can make the dough in advance, let it rise, then refrigerate it overnight and bake the rolls the next day.
- For extra flavor, you can also add some garlic powder to the dough or brush the rolls with garlic butter after baking.
