Description

Green Bean Casserole is a classic, comforting side dish featuring tender green beans in a creamy mushroom sauce topped with crispy French-fried onions. Perfect for holiday gatherings or family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb fresh or frozen green beans, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 1/3 cups French-fried onions, divided
  • Optional: 1/4 cup grated cheddar cheese (for extra flavor)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cook the Green Beans: Blanch fresh green beans in boiling water for 4-5 minutes or thaw and drain frozen green beans.
  • Mix the Casserole: Combine cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, black pepper, and 2/3 cup of French-fried onions in a bowl. Stir in cooked green beans and optional grated cheddar cheese.
  • Assemble the Casserole: Pour the mixture into a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  • Bake: Bake for 25 minutes or until hot and bubbly.
  • Add Fried Onions: Sprinkle remaining French-fried onions on top and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until onions are golden and crispy.
  • Serve: Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add 1/4 cup of grated cheddar cheese.
  • Ensure the casserole is fully cooked before adding the French-fried onions to prevent them from burning.
