Description

Green Onion Crackers are crispy, savory homemade crackers with a delightful burst of flavor from fresh green onions. These crackers are perfect for snacking, serving with dips, or enjoying with cheese. They’re easy to make and a great alternative to store-bought crackers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons fresh green onions, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 23 tablespoons cold water (as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. In a food processor, combine the flour, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Pulse to mix.
  3. Add the cold butter cubes and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. With the food processor running, drizzle in the vegetable oil until the dough starts to come together.
  5. Add the chopped green onions and Parmesan cheese (if using), and pulse until evenly distributed.
  6. Gradually add the cold water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough forms a ball. You may not need all the water.
  7. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out to about 1/8-inch thickness.
  8. Cut the dough into squares or your desired shape using a knife or cookie cutter.
  9. Place the crackers onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the crackers are golden brown and crispy.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, sprinkle the crackers with a little sea salt or garlic salt right after baking.
  • If you don’t have a food processor, you can use a pastry cutter or fork to incorporate the butter into the flour mixture by hand.
  • Feel free to experiment with other herbs like thyme, rosemary, or dill for a different flavor profile.
