Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup green tea (strong brewed, cooled)
- 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup (for sweetness)
- 2 tbsp lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
- 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger (or 1 tsp ground ginger)
- 1/2 tsp lemon zest (optional, for extra flavor)
- 1/4 tsp turmeric (optional, for additional anti-inflammatory benefits)
- 2 tbsp agar-agar powder (or gelatin for non-vegan option)
- 1/4 cup water (for dissolving agar or gelatin)
- Pinch of salt (optional, to balance the sweetness)
Instructions
- Brew the green tea by steeping 1-2 green tea bags in 1/2 cup hot water for about 3-5 minutes. Let it cool completely.
- In a small saucepan, combine the green tea, honey (or maple syrup), lemon juice, grated ginger, lemon zest (if using), and turmeric (if using). Stir well to combine.
- In a separate small bowl, mix the agar-agar powder (or gelatin) with 1/4 cup water, allowing it to dissolve completely. If using agar-agar, let it bloom for 5 minutes.
- Pour the agar-agar (or gelatin mixture) into the saucepan with the green tea mixture. Stir constantly over medium heat until the mixture begins to simmer and thicken, about 5-7 minutes.
- Once the mixture has thickened to a syrup-like consistency, remove it from the heat and pour it into a silicone candy mold or ice cube tray.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until the chews are firm and set.
- Once set, remove the chews from the mold and store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Enjoy as a quick energy-boosting snack!
Notes
- For a vegan version, use agar-agar instead of gelatin.
- These chews can be flavored with additional spices like cinnamon or cayenne pepper for a different twist.
- If you prefer a sweeter chew, adjust the amount of honey or syrup to your taste.
- Store the chews in the fridge to keep them firm, and consume them within 2 weeks for the best flavor and texture.
