Description

A comforting and hearty dish featuring creamy mashed potatoes topped with savory ground beef and rich gravy. Perfect for family dinners and sure to please everyone at the table!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Mashed Potatoes:

  • 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Ground Beef and Gravy:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare Mashed Potatoes: Place potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Add salt and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until potatoes are tender (about 20 minutes). Drain potatoes and return to pot. Add milk and butter, and mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper. Cover and keep warm.
  • Cook Ground Beef and Gravy: In a large skillet, brown ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain excess fat. Add diced onion and minced garlic. Cook until onions are translucent (about 5 minutes). Sprinkle flour over beef and cook, stirring, for 2 minutes. Gradually stir in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping up browned bits. Bring to a simmer and thicken the gravy (about 5 minutes). Add frozen peas and carrots during the last few minutes of cooking (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve: Spoon mashed potatoes onto plates or bowls. Top with ground beef and gravy mixture. Serve hot.

Notes

  • For a creamier texture, consider adding cream cheese or sour cream to the mashed potatoes.
  • You can customize the gravy by adding your favorite herbs or spices.
