Ingredients
- All-purpose flour
- Baking powder
- Salt
- Unsalted butter, softened
- Granulated sugar
- Eggs
- Vanilla extract
- Gel food coloring (green and purple recommended)
Instructions
- Make the Dough:
- Cream the butter and sugar until fluffy.
- Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
- In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, combining until just mixed.
- Divide and Color the Dough:
- Split the dough into two portions.
- Add green gel food coloring to one portion and purple to the other. Knead until the colors are well-distributed.
- Wrap each portion in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Roll the Dough:
- On a floured surface, roll out each colored dough into rectangles.
- Layer the green dough on top of the purple dough. Lightly roll them together.
- Trim the edges and roll the dough into a log. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for another hour.
- Slice and Bake:
- Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C).
- Slice the dough log into 1/4 to 1/2 inch slices. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 13-15 minutes, or until set. Cool on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
