- ½ tsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ⅛ tsp almond extract
- Orange and black sanding sugar (for rolling)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with a silicone mat.
- In a small bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat together butter and sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Beat until combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until combined.
- Place orange sanding sugar and black sanding sugar into separate bowls. Scoop dough with a cookie scoop, form into balls, and roll each in the sanding sugar.
- Arrange cookies 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until edges are slightly golden. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
- For more festive cookies, use Halloween-themed cookie cutters before baking.
- If the dough is too soft, chill it for 30 minutes before scooping.
