Description

A sweet twist on classic French toast using soft, sweet Hawaiian rolls. This is perfect for breakfast or brunch and can be served with your favorite toppings!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (12 rolls) Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk (whole milk or any preferred milk)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • A pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for cooking)

Optional Toppings:

  • Maple syrup
  • Powdered sugar
  • Fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, etc.)
  • Whipped cream
  • Nutella or chocolate sauce

Instructions

  • Prepare the egg mixture: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  • Prep the Hawaiian rolls: Cut the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally so that each roll is halved like a sandwich bun.
  • Dip the rolls: Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt about 1 tablespoon of butter. Dip each halved roll into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side. Let the excess drip off before placing the roll halves in the hot skillet.
  • Cook the French toast: Cook the rolls in the buttered skillet for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Repeat with the remaining rolls, adding more butter to the skillet as needed.
  • Serve: Serve the Hawaiian Rolls French Toast warm with your favorite toppings, such as maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh berries, or whipped cream.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, consider using half-and-half instead of milk.
  • Feel free to mix in spices like nutmeg for an extra flavor boost.
