Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  2. Cream the butter and sugars:
    • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed. Beat until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla:
    • Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Combine the dry ingredients:
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Stir in the chocolate chips:
    • Gently fold in the chocolate chips using a spatula or wooden spoon.
  6. Shape the cookies:
    • Lightly flour a clean surface or your hands, and take a small ball of dough (about 1-2 tablespoons in size). Roll the dough into a ball and flatten it slightly into a disc.
    • Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, press down into the dough and carefully lift the cutter to remove the heart-shaped cookie. Place each heart-shaped cookie onto the prepared baking sheet.
    • If you don’t have a heart-shaped cookie cutter, you can use a round cookie cutter and shape the dough by hand into a heart before baking.
  7. Bake the cookies:
    • Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers are still slightly soft.
    • Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
