Description

This Heart-Shaped Chocolate Flan is the perfect Valentine’s Day dessert! With layers of rich, creamy chocolate flan set in a heart shape, it’s an elegant and indulgent treat for your loved ones. The smooth texture and decadent chocolate flavor make it an unforgettable dessert for any special occasion!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Caramel:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp water

For the Chocolate Flan:

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Caramel:
    • In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar and water. Stir until the sugar begins to dissolve.
    • Allow the mixture to cook for 5-7 minutes, without stirring, until the sugar turns golden brown. Be careful not to burn it.
    • Quickly pour the caramel into the bottom of your heart-shaped molds or a heart-shaped baking dish. Swirl the molds to evenly coat the bottom with the caramel. Set aside to cool and harden.
  2. Prepare the Chocolate Flan:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • In a blender, combine the whole milk, heavy cream, sweetened condensed milk, eggs, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Blend until smooth and well combined.
    • Pour the chocolate flan mixture over the cooled caramel in the molds, filling them evenly.
  3. Bake the Flan:
    • Place the heart-shaped molds in a large baking pan. Add hot water to the baking pan until it reaches about halfway up the sides of the molds to create a water bath.
    • Bake the flan for 50-60 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
    • Remove the molds from the water bath and let them cool to room temperature. Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to fully set.
  4. Serve the Flan:
    • To remove the flan from the molds, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it. Carefully flip the molds onto a serving plate, allowing the caramel to drizzle over the flan.
    • Slice and serve chilled!

Notes

  • You can garnish the chocolate flan with whipped cream, fresh berries, or chocolate shavings for extra flair.
  • If you prefer a stronger chocolate flavor, you can increase the amount of cocoa powder in the mixture to 3/4 cup.
  • This dessert can be made a day ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve.
