Ingredients

Scale

For the Cookie Dough:

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp milk

For the Thumbprint Filling:

  • 1/4 cup raspberry jam or your favorite fruit jam (strawberry, apricot, etc.)
  • Optional: Melted chocolate for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cookie Dough:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
    • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
    • In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Add the egg, vanilla extract, and milk, and beat until well combined.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  2. Shape the Cookies:
    • Scoop about 1 tablespoon of dough and roll it into a ball.
    • Place the dough ball onto the prepared baking sheet. Use your thumb (or the back of a spoon) to press an indent into the center of each dough ball, forming a heart shape.
    • Gently reshape the dough into a heart shape if necessary after making the thumbprint.
  3. Bake the Cookies:
    • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges of the cookies are set. The centers should still be slightly soft.
    • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  4. Fill the Thumbprint:
    • Once the cookies are completely cooled, fill the thumbprints with about 1 teaspoon of raspberry jam or your preferred fruit jam.
    • Optionally, drizzle melted chocolate over the top of the cookies for extra sweetness and decoration.
  5. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Allow the chocolate drizzle to set, if used, before serving. Enjoy these heart-shaped chocolate thumbprint cookies with your loved ones!

Notes

  • You can use any fruit jam you prefer, such as strawberry, apricot, or blueberry, for the thumbprint center.
  • If you prefer, you can also top the cookies with a sprinkle of powdered sugar for a little extra sweetness.
  • Store any leftover cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
