Description

This Hearty Ground Beef and Cabbage Skillet is a quick and comforting one-pan meal that’s packed with savory flavors. The combination of tender ground beef, sautéed cabbage, and seasonings makes for a filling, nutritious dish that’s perfect for a weeknight dinner. Simple, satisfying, and full of flavor!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (85% lean or leaner)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups cabbage, shredded (about half a medium head)
  • 1 large carrot, grated
  • 1/2 cup beef broth (or chicken broth)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (or vegetable oil)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

    1. Cook the Ground Beef:
      • Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, for about 6-8 minutes or until the beef is browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
    2. Sauté the Vegetables:
      • Add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil to the same skillet. Add the chopped onion and grated carrot and sauté for about 4-5 minutes until the onion becomes translucent and the carrot softens.
      • Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
    3. Add the Cabbage and Cook:
      • Add the shredded cabbage to the skillet and stir to combine with the beef and vegetables.
      • Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, and sprinkle in the paprika, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together.
      • Cover the skillet and cook for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and wilted.
    4. Adjust Seasoning and Serve:
      • Taste the mixture and adjust the seasoning with more salt, pepper, or Worcestershire sauce as needed.
      • Remove the skillet from heat and garnish with chopped fresh parsley.
    5. Serve:
      • Serve the hearty beef and cabbage skillet on its own or alongside rice, mashed potatoes, or a side salad for a complete meal.
    6. Enjoy:
      • This flavorful, easy-to-make dish is perfect for busy nights when you want something nutritious and filling!

Notes

  • For a low-carb version, serve the beef and cabbage skillet on its own or with cauliflower rice for a lighter option.
  • You can use ground turkey or chicken as a leaner alternative to ground beef.
  • If you prefer a bit of heat, add some red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce to the skillet.
  • Feel free to experiment with different seasonings such as cumin, oregano, or chili powder for extra flavor variations.
