Description
This Herb Brown Butter Sauce is a rich and aromatic sauce made with browned butter, fresh herbs, and optional lemon juice. It’s perfect for drizzling over pasta, vegetables, fish, chicken, or steak, adding a touch of elegance and a burst of flavor to any dish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, rosemary, or sage (or a combination), chopped
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Brown the Butter: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Continue to cook, swirling the pan occasionally, until the butter begins to foam and the milk solids turn golden brown, about 5-7 minutes. Be careful not to let it burn.
- Add Garlic and Herbs: Once the butter is browned, lower the heat and add the minced garlic (if using) and fresh herbs. Cook for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, stirring frequently, until fragrant.
- Add Lemon Juice: Stir in the lemon juice, if using. This step is optional but adds a nice balance to the richness of the butter.
- Season: Remove from heat and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve: Drizzle the Herb Brown Butter Sauce over pasta, vegetables, fish, chicken, or steak. Optionally, sprinkle in some grated Parmesan cheese for added richness.
Notes
- For a vegan version, use a plant-based butter substitute and omit the Parmesan cheese.
- If using dried herbs, use about 1 teaspoon of dried herbs in place of the fresh.
