Description

This Herb & Cheese Quick Bread is a savory, easy-to-make loaf packed with fragrant herbs and gooey cheese. Perfect as a side for soups, stews, or salads, it’s a no-fuss bread that comes together quickly without the need for yeast. The soft, fluffy texture and flavorful cheese and herbs make this a go-to recipe for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or milk)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a loaf pan (9×5 inches) or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, basil, oregano, and garlic powder until well combined.

  3. Add Wet Ingredients:
In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, and melted butter. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined (don’t overmix). Fold in the shredded cheese.

  4. Transfer to Pan:
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread it evenly.

  5. Bake the Bread:
Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. Cool and Serve:
Let the bread cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. Garnish with fresh parsley (optional), slice, and serve!

Notes

  • This bread can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days.
  • You can also add a handful of chopped sun-dried tomatoes, olives, or cooked bacon bits for extra flavor.
