Description

These Homemade 3 Musketeers Bars recreate the classic candy bar at home! Light, fluffy nougat is covered in a smooth layer of rich chocolate, just like the store-bought version, but with a homemade twist. A perfect treat for chocolate lovers!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 large egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips (for coating)
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for the chocolate coating)

Instructions

  1. Make the nougat: In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves, and bring the mixture to a boil. Let it simmer until it reaches 240°F (115°C) on a candy thermometer (soft-ball stage).
  2. Whisk egg whites: While the syrup is simmering, beat the egg whites in a separate bowl until soft peaks form. Once the syrup reaches 240°F, slowly pour it into the egg whites while continuing to whisk. Keep whisking until the mixture becomes thick and glossy, about 5 minutes. Add vanilla extract and powdered sugar, mixing until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Shape the nougat: Line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper or wax paper. Spread the nougat mixture evenly in the pan, pressing it down gently with a spatula to smooth it out. Let it cool at room temperature for about 1 hour until it sets firm.
  4. Coat in chocolate: Once the nougat is firm, cut it into bars of your desired size. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the milk chocolate chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and vegetable oil. Microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted.
  5. Dip the bars: Using a fork, dip each nougat bar into the melted chocolate, coating them completely. Allow any excess chocolate to drip off, then place the coated bars on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Set the bars: Let the chocolate-covered bars cool and harden at room temperature or refrigerate them for 10-15 minutes to speed up the process.
  7. Serve: Once the chocolate is set, serve the homemade 3 Musketeers bars or store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.

Notes

  • Candy thermometer: It’s important to use a candy thermometer for this recipe to ensure the sugar syrup reaches the correct temperature.
  • Chocolate options: You can use all milk chocolate or all semi-sweet chocolate if you prefer a different flavor balance.
  • Storage: These bars can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container or in the refrigerator if you prefer a firmer texture.
  • Make-ahead: The nougat can be made a day ahead and stored in the fridge before dipping in chocolate.
