Description

This Homemade Cocoa Mix Powder is the perfect DIY treat to have on hand for quick, rich, and creamy hot cocoa. Made with just a few pantry staples, it’s an easy, customizable way to enjoy a cozy cup of hot chocolate anytime!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups dry milk powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla powder (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (optional, for extra richness)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, dry milk powder, and salt until fully combined.
  2. If using, stir in the vanilla powder for an added flavor boost.
  3. For an extra indulgent touch, fold in the mini chocolate chips.
  4. Store the cocoa mix in an airtight container at room temperature. It will stay fresh for up to 6 months.
  5. To make hot cocoa: Add 3 tablespoons of cocoa mix to a mug. Pour in 1 cup of hot water or milk, and stir until the mix is dissolved and smooth. Adjust the amount of mix depending on how rich you prefer your cocoa.
  6. Optional: Top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or a sprinkle of cinnamon for extra flavor!

Notes

  • For a dairy-free version, use powdered coconut milk or almond milk powder instead of dry milk powder.
  • Customize your cocoa mix by adding a pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg, or chili powder for a spiced version.
  • If you want a more intense chocolate flavor, increase the cocoa powder by a tablespoon or two.
