Ingredients

Scale

For the Gyros:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground lamb for a more traditional gyro flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Sautéed Peppers and Onions:

  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 large bell pepper, thinly sliced (use any color)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Gyro Assembly:

  • 46 pita or flatbreads
  • 1/2 cup tzatziki sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • Chopped tomatoes (optional)
  • Fresh lettuce (optional)
  • Feta cheese (optional)

Instructions

  • Cook the Ground Beef:
    • In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat.
    • Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until browned.
    • Season the beef with garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper.
    • Continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes until the beef is fully cooked and well-seasoned. Set aside.
  • Sauté the Peppers and Onions:
    • In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil.
    • Toss in the sliced onions and bell peppers, and cook for about 5-7 minutes until they soften and develop a slight char.
    • Season with salt and pepper to taste, then remove from heat.
  • Assemble the Gyros:
    • Warm the pita or flatbreads in a dry pan or microwave for a few seconds.
    • Spread a generous amount of tzatziki sauce on each pita.
    • Add a spoonful of the cooked ground beef mixture on top.
    • Pile on the sautéed peppers and onions.
    • Optional: Add chopped tomatoes, fresh lettuce, and crumbled feta cheese for extra flavor and texture.
  • Serve:
    • Fold each pita or flatbread into a gyro wrap, and serve warm.
    • Enjoy with a side of fries or a fresh Greek salad for a complete meal.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes to the beef mixture.
  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
