- 1 1/4 cups (250g) granulated sugar
- 1 cup (85g) Dutch cocoa powder (spoon and level)
- 6 oz. unsweetened chocolate, finely chopped
- 8 Tbsp (80g) malted milk powder
- 2 1/2 Tbsp (20g) cornstarch
Instructions
- Make the Mix: In a food processor, add all the ingredients: granulated sugar, Dutch cocoa powder, finely chopped unsweetened chocolate, malted milk powder, and cornstarch. Pulse until finely ground and well combined (about 30 to 60 seconds).
- Store the Mix: Transfer the mixture to an airtight container. Store for up to 3 months or until any ingredient expires.
- Prepare Hot Chocolate: For one serving, heat 1 cup of milk in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Once it bubbles lightly, add 1/4 cup of the hot cocoa mix. Whisk constantly until it simmers gently for about 20 seconds. Pour into a mug and let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- By Hand: If you don’t have a food processor, you can whisk the ingredients together manually.
- Flavor Variations: Add 1 Tbsp of instant espresso powder for a coffee flavor, or 1/8 tsp vanilla or a few drops of peppermint extract for added flavor.
- Spiced Version: For Mexican hot chocolate, add a pinch of chili powder, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper.
