Description

These Homemade Kool-Aid Licorice Ropes are a fun, colorful, and fruity twist on classic licorice! Made with Kool-Aid and simple ingredients, they’re easy to make and perfect for a sweet homemade treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 packet Kool-Aid (any flavor you like)
  • 1 tablespoon butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mixture: In a medium saucepan, combine the flour, corn syrup, sugar, Kool-Aid packet, butter, and salt. Stir well to combine.

  2. Cook the Mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, for about 5-7 minutes, or until the mixture starts to thicken and becomes dough-like in texture.

  3. Knead the Dough: Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly until it is safe to handle. Transfer the dough to a clean surface and knead for about 3-4 minutes. The dough should become smooth and elastic.

  4. Shape the Licorice Ropes: Once the dough is cool enough to handle, roll it into small, thin ropes. You can make the ropes as long or short as you prefer. If the dough is too sticky, dust your hands with a little flour to help with rolling.

  5. Cool the Licorice: Place the licorice ropes on a sheet of parchment paper and let them cool completely at room temperature for 1-2 hours. The ropes will firm up as they cool.

  6. Serve: Once the Kool-Aid Licorice Ropes are set and firm, they’re ready to enjoy! Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.

Notes

  • Experiment with different Kool-Aid flavors to create various vibrant colors and fruity tastes.
  • If you want a chewier texture, you can add a little extra corn syrup to the mixture. If you prefer a firmer texture, add a little more flour.
  • You can cut the ropes into smaller pieces to make bite-sized treats or leave them long for a fun licorice twist.
