Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 mozzarella cheese sticks (or string cheese)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 2 cups Italian breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions

  • Prepare the Mozzarella: Unwrap and cut mozzarella sticks in half for shorter pieces (optional).
  • Set Up Breading Stations: Place flour in one bowl, eggs and water in a second, and breadcrumbs, Parmesan, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper in a third.
  • Coat the Mozzarella: Dredge each cheese stick in flour, dip in egg wash, then coat in breadcrumbs. Repeat for an extra layer of crunch.
  • Freeze: Arrange the breaded sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 1 hour.
  • Fry: Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) and fry mozzarella sticks in batches for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  • Serve: Serve hot with marinara sauce

Notes

  • Freeze the sticks before frying to keep the cheese inside.
  • Double coat for extra crunch.
  • Use high-quality mozzarella for the best results.
  • Hot oil is key: Fry at 350°F to avoid greasy sticks.
