Description

Enjoy a rich and creamy nacho cheese sauce made from scratch in just 20 minutes. Perfect for game days, parties, or a fun snack, this sauce pairs beautifully with tortilla chips or fries.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups shredded medium cheddar cheese
  • 1 ½ teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 (12-ounce) can evaporated milk
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 teaspoons hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

  • Prep the Cheese: In a large mixing bowl, toss the shredded cheddar cheese with the cornstarch until evenly coated.
  • Heat the Milk: In a medium saucepan, pour in the evaporated milk and bring it to a simmer over medium heat. Stir occasionally.
  • Melt the Cheese: Reduce the heat to low and gradually add the cornstarch-coated cheese to the simmering milk, stirring constantly until smooth.
  • Season the Sauce: Stir in the salt, cayenne pepper, and hot sauce if using. Adjust seasoning as desired.
  • Serve: Keep warm and serve immediately with tortilla chips, fries, or as a topping for nachos.

Notes

For an extra kick, add chopped jalapeños or smoked paprika. If the sauce thickens too much, thin it out with a splash of milk.
