Description

The Homemade Sonic Double Smasher Burger brings all the deliciousness of the classic Sonic burger right to your kitchen. With two perfectly smashed beef patties, melted cheese, and all the essential toppings, this burger is juicy, flavorful, and perfect for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (4 oz) beef patties (80% lean)
  • 2 slices cheddar cheese
  • 2 soft burger buns
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • Pickle slices (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. Preheat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat and add vegetable oil.
  2. Season the beef patties with salt and pepper. Place them on the hot skillet.
  3. Immediately smash each patty down with a spatula to form a thin patty. Let it cook for 2–3 minutes until the edges are crispy and caramelized.
  4. Flip the patties and immediately add a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty. Cook for another 1–2 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the patties are cooked through.
  5. Meanwhile, toast the burger buns in the same skillet until lightly golden and crispy, about 1 minute.
  6. Spread mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard on the bottom half of each toasted bun.
  7. Place the cheesy beef patties on the buns. Top with sliced onions and pickles, if using.
  8. Cover with the top half of the buns and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can sauté the onions before adding them to the burger.
  • If you prefer, you can use any cheese variety—American cheese works great for a meltier texture.
  • For a spicier burger, add some jalapeño slices or hot sauce to the toppings.
