Ingredients
Scale
For the steak:
- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, cut into bite-sized cubes
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
For the honey garlic butter sauce:
- 3 tbsp butter
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar (or lemon juice for tang)
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
For the rice:
- 1 cup uncooked white rice
- 2 cups chicken broth (or water)
- 1 tbsp butter
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, cook the rice: Combine rice, chicken broth, butter, and salt in the pan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed. Remove from heat and fluff with a fork.
- While the rice cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the steak cubes with salt and pepper.
- Add the steak to the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes, until the steak is browned and cooked through. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in the honey, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, and red pepper flakes (if using). Let the sauce simmer for about 2 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly.
- Return the cooked steak to the skillet and toss it in the sauce to coat. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the steak to absorb the flavors.
- Serve the honey garlic butter steak over the cooked rice, and drizzle any remaining sauce over the top.
- Garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or green onions, if desired. Serve hot!
Notes
- If you want a lighter version, you can substitute the butter with olive oil for cooking the steak and use less honey in the sauce.
- For a little extra flavor, you can sauté some onions or bell peppers with the steak.
- This dish can be made with other cuts of beef, such as ribeye or tenderloin, but adjust cooking times accordingly for thicker cuts.
