Description

This soft and slightly sweet Honey Wheat Bread is perfect for sandwiches, toast, or just enjoying with butter. Made with whole wheat flour and sweetened with honey, it’s a wholesome and delicious homemade bread option.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1/4 cup milk (optional, for softer texture)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water and honey. Stir in the yeast and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and oil to the flour mixture, and stir until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, or until it’s smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place the loaf into a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  8. Let the dough rise in the pan for another 30-45 minutes, or until it has risen slightly above the edge of the pan.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  10. Remove the bread from the pan and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • You can substitute the all-purpose flour for more whole wheat flour for a denser, more whole-grain bread.
  • For a softer loaf, you can add 1/4 cup of milk or use bread flour instead of all-purpose flour.
  • Store the bread in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
