This soft and slightly sweet Honey Wheat Bread is perfect for sandwiches, toast, or just enjoying with butter. Made with whole wheat flour and sweetened with honey, it’s a wholesome and delicious homemade bread option.

- 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
- 1/4 cup milk (optional, for softer texture)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm water and honey. Stir in the yeast and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large bowl, mix the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture and oil to the flour mixture, and stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, or until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place the loaf into a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- Let the dough rise in the pan for another 30-45 minutes, or until it has risen slightly above the edge of the pan.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Remove the bread from the pan and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
- You can substitute the all-purpose flour for more whole wheat flour for a denser, more whole-grain bread.
- For a softer loaf, you can add 1/4 cup of milk or use bread flour instead of all-purpose flour.
- Store the bread in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
