Ingredients
Scale
- For the Cake:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- For the Fudge Sauce:
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/4 cups hot water
Instructions
- Prepare the Batter:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Make the Fudge Sauce:
- In a separate bowl, mix the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa powder. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter in the baking dish.
- Carefully pour the hot water over the entire mixture—do not stir.
- Bake:
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is set and the edges are bubbling. The top will be cake-like, but underneath, you’ll find a luscious layer of hot fudge sauce.
- Serve:
- Let the cake cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, letting the hot fudge ooze over the top.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of espresso powder to enhance the chocolate.
