Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (optional for added flavor)
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)
- Tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh veggies for serving
Instructions
- Caramelize the Onions:
In a large skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 20-25 minutes until they are soft, golden brown, and caramelized. Reduce the heat if the onions start to brown too quickly. Remove from heat and set aside. - Prepare the Dip Base:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, sour cream, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, and dried thyme (if using). Mix well until the mixture is smooth and creamy. - Combine the Ingredients:
Add the caramelized onions into the cream cheese mixture and stir to combine. - Bake the Dip:
Transfer the dip mixture into a greased baking dish (an 8×8-inch dish works well). Spread the mixture evenly and sprinkle with additional grated cheese if desired. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly. - Garnish and Serve:
Once the dip is baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley for a burst of color and serve with tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh veggies for dipping.
Notes
- You can prepare the dip ahead of time and refrigerate it until ready to bake. Just let it come to room temperature before baking.
- For an extra cheesy topping, sprinkle more mozzarella or cheddar cheese on top before baking.
- Add a dash of hot sauce or a pinch of red pepper flakes if you like a bit of heat!
