Description

These heart-shaped I-Love-You Scones are the perfect treat to show someone you care! Soft, buttery, and slightly sweet, these scones are studded with dried fruit and a hint of vanilla, making them perfect for a Valentine’s Day breakfast or afternoon tea. Enjoy them with a cup of tea or coffee for the ultimate cozy experience!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries or raisins (optional)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (plus extra for brushing)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon milk (optional for brushing)
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven & Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon (if using).
  3. Cut in the Butter: Add the cold butter cubes into the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs with small pea-sized pieces of butter.
  4. Add Dried Fruit: Gently fold in the dried cranberries or raisins if using.
  5. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the cream, egg, and vanilla extract.
  6. Form Dough: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir with a spoon or spatula until just combined. Do not overmix. The dough will be slightly crumbly but should hold together.
  7. Shape Scones: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Gently pat it into a circle about 1-inch thick. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the scones. If you don’t have a heart-shaped cutter, use a round cutter or simply cut the dough into wedges.
  8. Brush and Sprinkle: Place the scones onto the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with a little extra cream or milk, and sprinkle with coarse sugar for a sweet crunch.
  9. Bake: Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown on top.
  10. Cool & Serve: Let the scones cool slightly on a wire rack. Serve with clotted cream, jam, or fresh berries.

Notes

  • If you prefer your scones sweeter, feel free to increase the sugar to 1/3 cup.
  • For a fun twist, you can add white chocolate chips or chopped strawberries to the dough.
  • These scones are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
