Description

These tasty Iowa Party Bites are perfect for your next gathering! With their savory flavor and bite-sized appeal, they’re sure to be a hit. Easy to make and full of delicious ingredients, they’re great for snacks, appetizers, or party platters.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package of cocktail rye bread
  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: chopped pickles for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, brown the ground beef and ground pork over medium heat until fully cooked, breaking it up into small crumbles. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook for 3-5 minutes until softened.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked meat mixture with the shredded cheddar cheese, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined.
  5. Place the cocktail rye bread slices on a baking sheet. Spoon the meat mixture onto each slice, spreading it evenly.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Optional: Garnish with chopped pickles before serving.

Notes

  • Feel free to adjust the seasoning (salt, pepper, and mustard) to your taste preferences.
  • If you want to make these ahead of time, prepare the meat mixture and refrigerate it until you’re ready to bake the bites.
  • You can also substitute ground turkey or chicken for the pork and beef mixture for a lighter version.
