Description
Italian Compound Butter is a savory, herb-infused spread made with garlic, Parmesan, and classic Italian herbs. It’s a simple way to add rich, aromatic flavor to bread, steaks, vegetables, or pasta.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon fresh basil, finely chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon fresh oregano, finely chopped (or 1/2 teaspoon dried)
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Pinch of salt (to taste, especially if butter is unsalted)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter with all other ingredients.
- Use a fork or spatula to thoroughly mix until the herbs and cheese are evenly distributed.
- Scoop the mixture onto a piece of parchment or plastic wrap and shape into a log. Twist the ends to seal.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to firm up before slicing or using.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 3 months.
Notes
- Use high-quality butter for the best flavor.
- Excellent on warm baguettes, grilled steak, roasted vegetables, or stirred into hot pasta.
- Can be made with dried herbs, but fresh gives a brighter flavor.
