Description
These spooky Jalapeno Popper Mummies are a Halloween favorite, combining spicy jalapenos with a creamy, cheesy filling and wrapped in golden crescent dough. Perfect as an appetizer for your Halloween party!
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 large jalapenos, halved and seeds removed
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 package refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Candy googly eyes (or small pieces of black olives)
Instructions
-
Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking tray with foil and lightly spray it with olive oil cooking spray.
-
Prepare the Jalapenos:
- Slice the jalapenos lengthwise and remove the seeds and ribs. For a spicier bite, you can leave some of the ribs intact.
-
Make the Filling:
- In a large bowl, combine the cream cheese, shredded Monterey Jack cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
-
Stuff the Jalapenos:
- Spoon the cheese mixture into each jalapeno half, packing it in generously.
-
Prepare the Dough:
- Unroll the crescent rolls and press the perforations together to create 4 rectangles. Cut each rectangle lengthwise into 10 strips.
-
Wrap the Jalapenos:
- Wrap each stuffed jalapeno with 2 strips of crescent dough, leaving gaps for the eyes to create a “mummy” look. Ensure the dough covers the cheese filling well but maintains an uneven, bandaged appearance.
-
Brush with Egg Wash:
- Lightly brush the crescent dough with the beaten egg wash to achieve a golden, crispy texture.
-
Bake:
- Arrange the wrapped jalapenos on the prepared baking tray. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and fully cooked.
-
Add the Eyes:
- After removing from the oven, press candy googly eyes (or small pieces of black olives) into the dough where the mummy’s eyes should be.
-
Serve:
- Let the mummies cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!
Notes
- For a milder version, ensure you remove all the seeds and ribs from the jalapenos.
- You can use pre-made cheese blends or your favorite cheeses for variation.
