Description

This Juicy Turkey Meatloaf is a flavorful, lighter alternative to traditional beef meatloaf. With a tangy glaze and a perfect blend of seasonings, this dish offers a satisfying and healthy option for a hearty family meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

For the Meatloaf:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup of the glaze mixture
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 pounds ground turkey

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Glaze

  1. In a medium bowl, combine ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and Dijon mustard. Whisk together until smooth. Set aside.

Step 2: Sauté the Onions

  1. Heat olive oil in a small pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Remove from heat.

Step 3: Prepare the Meatloaf Mixture

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 1/4 cup of the prepared glaze, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, paprika, thyme, salt, pepper, and eggs. Whisk to blend.
  2. Stir in the sautéed onions and garlic.
  3. Add the bread crumbs and ground turkey. Use your hands or a spatula to gently combine everything, being careful not to overmix.

Step 4: Shape and Glaze the Meatloaf

  1. Transfer the turkey mixture to a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Shape it into a loaf, about 9 inches long and 4-5 inches wide.
  2. Brush the remaining glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf.

Step 5: Bake

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bake for about 55-65 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  3. Let the meatloaf rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • To prevent the meatloaf from becoming dry, avoid overmixing the meat and bake until just cooked through.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding finely chopped vegetables like bell peppers or carrots to the meat mixture.
  • If using a loaf pan, adjust the baking time as it may cook faster in a pan.
