Description
This homemade KFC-style coleslaw is a deliciously creamy and tangy side dish that’s just like the famous version from the fast food chain! Perfect for barbecues, picnics, or a classic meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 medium head of green cabbage, finely shredded
- 1/4 cup shredded carrot
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 1/2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1/8 tsp celery seed (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage and shredded carrot.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, buttermilk, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, sugar, salt, pepper, and celery seed (if using).
- Pour the dressing over the cabbage and carrot mixture, tossing to combine evenly.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Serve chilled and enjoy!
Notes
- For best results, let the coleslaw sit in the fridge overnight for the flavors to develop even more.
- You can adjust the sweetness by adding more sugar, or adjust the tanginess with extra vinegar or lemon juice if preferred.
- You can substitute regular milk for buttermilk if needed, though buttermilk adds a nice tangy flavor.
