Description

This homemade KFC-style coleslaw is a deliciously creamy and tangy side dish that’s just like the famous version from the fast food chain! Perfect for barbecues, picnics, or a classic meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium head of green cabbage, finely shredded
  • 1/4 cup shredded carrot
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/8 tsp celery seed (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage and shredded carrot.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, buttermilk, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, sugar, salt, pepper, and celery seed (if using).
  3. Pour the dressing over the cabbage and carrot mixture, tossing to combine evenly.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  5. Serve chilled and enjoy!

Notes

  • For best results, let the coleslaw sit in the fridge overnight for the flavors to develop even more.
  • You can adjust the sweetness by adding more sugar, or adjust the tanginess with extra vinegar or lemon juice if preferred.
  • You can substitute regular milk for buttermilk if needed, though buttermilk adds a nice tangy flavor.
