Description

Kool-Aid Taffy is a fun, colorful homemade candy that’s packed with fruity flavor! Made with a simple combination of sugar, corn syrup, and Kool-Aid powder, this chewy treat comes in vibrant colors and tangy flavors that will take you back to childhood. Perfect for parties or as a sweet gift!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 package (0.13 oz) Kool-Aid powder (any flavor)
  • 1/2 teaspoon butter (optional, for greasing)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for flavor)

  • A pinch of salt (optional, for balance)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your work area:

    • Line a baking sheet or counter space with parchment paper or wax paper. Grease the surface lightly with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking. Set aside.
  2. Make the sugar syrup:

    • In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, corn syrup, and water over medium heat. Stir constantly until the sugar has dissolved.
  3. Cook the mixture:

    • Bring the mixture to a boil and continue to cook for about 4-6 minutes, stirring occasionally. Use a candy thermometer to ensure the temperature reaches 250°F (hard ball stage). Once it hits the desired temperature, remove the saucepan from the heat.
  4. Add the flavor and color:

    • Immediately stir in the Kool-Aid powder and vanilla extract (if using). Stir well to ensure the mixture is evenly colored and flavored. If desired, add a pinch of salt for balance.
  5. Pull the taffy:

    • Let the mixture cool for a few minutes until it is safe to handle (around 140°F). Once it’s cool enough, begin pulling the taffy. Grease your hands with a little butter or oil and start stretching and folding the taffy until it becomes firm and glossy. You can pull it by hand or use a pair of buttered kitchen scissors to cut it into small, manageable pieces.
  6. Shape the taffy:

    • Once the taffy has cooled down and become firm, twist it into small pieces and wrap each piece in wax paper or plastic wrap. Let the wrapped taffy cool completely.
  7. Serve:

    • Enjoy your colorful and flavorful Kool-Aid Taffy! It makes for a fun treat at parties or a sweet homemade gift.

Notes

  • You can experiment with different Kool-Aid flavors to create a variety of colored and flavored taffies.
  • If the taffy becomes too hard to pull, simply warm it slightly in the microwave for a few seconds to soften it.

  • For a smoother texture, you can add a bit of butter to the syrup before cooking.
