Ingredients
- 1 (5.1 oz) package instant vanilla pudding mix
- 2 3/4 cups cold milk
- 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 (8 oz) container whipped topping (or fresh whipped cream)
- 4–5 ripe bananas, sliced
- 1 (11 oz) box Nilla wafers (or any vanilla wafer cookies)
Instructions
-
Make the Pudding:
In a large bowl, combine the instant vanilla pudding mix and cold milk. Whisk together until the mixture thickens (about 2 minutes). Add the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract, and whisk to combine. -
Fold in Whipped Topping:
Gently fold in the whipped topping or freshly whipped cream to the pudding mixture, creating a smooth and creamy filling. -
Layer the Dessert:
In a 9×13-inch baking dish or large trifle dish, layer the bottom with a portion of the vanilla wafers. Then, top the wafers with a layer of sliced bananas. Spread half of the pudding mixture over the bananas and wafers. Repeat the layering with more vanilla wafers, banana slices, and the remaining pudding mixture. -
Chill the Pudding:
Once the layers are complete, cover the dish with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. The pudding will firm up and the flavors will meld together. -
Serve:
Before serving, top the pudding with additional Nilla wafers and banana slices if desired. Scoop out portions and serve chilled.
Notes
- For the best results, use fresh bananas and serve the pudding within 24 hours of assembling to prevent the bananas from browning.
- If you prefer a homemade pudding, you can substitute the instant vanilla pudding mix with a custard-style homemade vanilla pudding recipe.
- You can prepare the pudding in individual serving dishes, such as mason jars, for a fun twist and easier portion control.
- If you’d like a richer flavor, add a layer of chocolate pudding or caramel sauce between the layers.
