Description

This Magnolia Bakery Banana Pudding is a creamy, sweet, and indulgent dessert that has become a fan favorite! With layers of vanilla pudding, fresh bananas, and crunchy Nilla wafer cookies, it’s the perfect treat for any occasion. Whether you’re hosting a gathering or simply craving something sweet, this iconic banana pudding will satisfy every time!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (5.1 oz) package instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 2 3/4 cups cold milk
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (8 oz) container whipped topping (or fresh whipped cream)
  • 45 ripe bananas, sliced

  • 1 (11 oz) box Nilla wafers (or any vanilla wafer cookies)

Instructions

  1. Make the Pudding:
In a large bowl, combine the instant vanilla pudding mix and cold milk. Whisk together until the mixture thickens (about 2 minutes). Add the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract, and whisk to combine.

  2. Fold in Whipped Topping:
Gently fold in the whipped topping or freshly whipped cream to the pudding mixture, creating a smooth and creamy filling.

  3. Layer the Dessert:
In a 9×13-inch baking dish or large trifle dish, layer the bottom with a portion of the vanilla wafers. Then, top the wafers with a layer of sliced bananas. Spread half of the pudding mixture over the bananas and wafers. Repeat the layering with more vanilla wafers, banana slices, and the remaining pudding mixture.

  4. Chill the Pudding:
Once the layers are complete, cover the dish with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. The pudding will firm up and the flavors will meld together.

  5. Serve:
Before serving, top the pudding with additional Nilla wafers and banana slices if desired. Scoop out portions and serve chilled.

Notes

  • For the best results, use fresh bananas and serve the pudding within 24 hours of assembling to prevent the bananas from browning.
  • If you prefer a homemade pudding, you can substitute the instant vanilla pudding mix with a custard-style homemade vanilla pudding recipe.
  • You can prepare the pudding in individual serving dishes, such as mason jars, for a fun twist and easier portion control.

  • If you’d like a richer flavor, add a layer of chocolate pudding or caramel sauce between the layers.
