Ingredients
Scale
For the Cookies:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Maple Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
- 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 1–2 tablespoons milk (as needed for thinning)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream the Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the Egg, Vanilla, and Maple Syrup: Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and maple syrup until smooth and well combined.
- Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Form the Cookies: Scoop out tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, spaced about 2 inches apart. Gently flatten each ball slightly with your hand.
- Bake the Cookies: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Make the Maple Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and milk (starting with 1 tablespoon and adding more as needed for the desired consistency). If using, add the vanilla extract. The glaze should be thick but pourable.
- Glaze the Cookies: Once the cookies are completely cooled, drizzle the maple glaze over the top of each cookie. Let the glaze set for about 10-15 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Consistency of Glaze: If the glaze is too thick, add more milk, a teaspoon at a time, until it reaches the desired consistency. If too thin, add more powdered sugar.
- Storage: Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. For longer storage, freeze cookies in a single layer and transfer to a freezer bag.
