Description

Mashed Potato Cheese Puffs are crispy on the outside, soft and cheesy on the inside, and the perfect way to use up leftover mashed potatoes. These bite-sized treats make a delicious appetizer, snack, or side dish everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cold mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (optional, for firmer texture)
  • Oil or nonstick spray (if baking)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) or preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C). If frying, heat oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix ingredients: In a large bowl, combine mashed potatoes, cheddar cheese, Parmesan, green onions, egg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Add flour if needed for consistency (mixture should hold its shape).
  3. Shape into puffs: Scoop about 1–2 tablespoons of the mixture and roll into balls or slightly flatten into small discs.
  4. Choose cooking method:
    • Oven: Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spray with oil, and bake for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy.
    • Air Fryer: Place in a single layer in the basket, spray with oil, and cook for 10–12 minutes, shaking halfway through.
    • Frying: Fry in batches for 2–3 minutes per side or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Serve: Serve hot with dipping sauce like sour cream, ranch, or ketchup. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Great use for leftover mashed potatoes! Just be sure they are cold and firm.
  • You can add chopped cooked bacon or diced jalapeños for extra flavor.
  • To make ahead, form the puffs and refrigerate until ready to cook.
