Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
- Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with non-stick spray or butter.
- Place the peeled and cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain well.
- In a large bowl, mash the potatoes with a potato masher until smooth and creamy.
- Stir in the melted butter, sour cream, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined and smooth.
- Transfer the mashed potatoes into the prepared baking dish. Smooth the top with a spatula.
- If desired, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the potatoes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is slightly golden and the cheese (if using) is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and garnish with fresh parsley, if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- For extra creaminess, add more sour cream or cream cheese to the mashed potatoes.
- Feel free to add bacon bits or green onions as a topping for extra flavor.
- If you’re looking to make them lower in fat, you can substitute Greek yogurt for sour cream and use reduced-fat cheese.
