Description

These Mushroom and Gruyère Crostini are the perfect appetizer for any occasion. Crispy toasted baguette slices are topped with a savory, earthy mushroom mixture, and melted Gruyère cheese. The combination of flavors is rich, comforting, and guaranteed to impress your guests. A great choice for a party or elegant snack!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 French baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch thick pieces
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 lb Mushrooms (button, cremini, or a mix), cleaned and sliced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup Dry white wine (optional)
  • 1 tbsp Fresh thyme leaves (or 1 tsp dried thyme)
  • 1/2 cup Gruyère cheese, grated
  • 1/4 cup Heavy cream (optional, for creamier mushrooms)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Arrange the baguette slices in a single layer on a baking sheet. Brush both sides lightly with olive oil and toast in the oven for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  3. While the bread is toasting, heat 1 tbsp of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for 5-7 minutes, until they release their moisture and start to brown.
  4. Add the minced garlic and thyme to the mushrooms, and cook for another 2-3 minutes until fragrant. If desired, pour in the white wine and cook for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the wine to reduce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. If using, stir in the heavy cream and cook for an additional 2 minutes until the sauce thickens and becomes creamy.
  6. Once the baguette slices are toasted, spoon the mushroom mixture onto each crostini. Top each with a generous amount of grated Gruyère cheese.
  7. Return the crostini to the oven for 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Remove from the oven, garnish with freshly chopped parsley, and serve warm. Enjoy your flavorful Mushroom and Gruyère Crostini!

Notes

  • For added depth of flavor, you can sauté the mushrooms in butter instead of olive oil.
  • If Gruyère is not available, you can substitute it with Swiss cheese, Fontina, or another meltable cheese.
  • These crostini can be made ahead by preparing the mushroom mixture and toasting the bread in advance. Assemble and bake just before serving.
