Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed if frozen
- 8 ounces mushrooms, finely chopped
- ½ cup shredded cheese (Gruyere, mozzarella, or cheddar work well)
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Prepare the Mushrooms:
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped mushrooms and cook for about 5-7 minutes, until the mushrooms release their moisture and it evaporates. Add minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. - Mix the Filling:
In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked mushrooms, shredded cheese, and cream cheese. Mix until everything is evenly combined. - Prepare the Puff Pastry:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a mini muffin tin. Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut the pastry into squares large enough to fit into the muffin cups. Press each square of puff pastry into the muffin tin, leaving the corners slightly overhanging. - Fill and Bake:
Spoon the mushroom and cheese mixture into each puff pastry cup. Brush the exposed edges of the puff pastry with the beaten egg for a golden and glossy finish. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden and puffed up. - Serve:
Allow the mushroom cheese puff bites to cool slightly before removing them from the muffin tin. Serve warm and enjoy these cheesy, buttery treats!
Notes
- These puff bites are best served warm but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
- You can customize the cheese selection based on your preference—Gruyere, mozzarella, or cheddar all work wonderfully.
- If you prefer a stronger garlic flavor, feel free to add more minced garlic to the filling.
- For a touch of elegance, garnish with chopped parsley or chives before serving.
