For the Cake:

- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil

For the Filling:
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon milk
For the Chocolate Glaze:
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- For the Cake:
- Prepare the cake batter according to the instructions on the cake mix box (or prepare homemade cake batter, if using a recipe). This typically involves mixing the cake mix, water, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract in a bowl.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool completely before removing them from the pans.
- For the Filling:
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with the powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
- Add the vanilla extract and milk and continue mixing until the filling is light and fluffy.
- Assembling the Cake:
- Once the cakes have cooled, spread a generous layer of the filling on top of one of the cake layers.
- Place the second cake layer on top and gently press down to sandwich the filling.
- For the Chocolate Glaze:
- In a small saucepan, melt the chocolate chips and butter over low heat, stirring frequently until smooth.
- Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the heavy cream to make a smooth, glossy glaze.
- Pour the chocolate glaze over the top of the assembled cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
- Let the glaze set before slicing and serving.
Notes
- If you prefer a less sweet filling, reduce the amount of powdered sugar slightly.
