Description

A decadent and indulgent cake made with layers of rich, moist chocolate cake, a creamy buttery filling, and topped with a luscious chocolate glaze. This cake is a true treat for any chocolate lover and perfect for special occasions!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

  • 1 box of chocolate cake mix (or homemade chocolate cake, if preferred)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Filling:

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon milk

For the Chocolate Glaze:

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. For the Cake:
    • Prepare the cake batter according to the instructions on the cake mix box (or prepare homemade cake batter, if using a recipe). This typically involves mixing the cake mix, water, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract in a bowl.
    • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
    • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
    • Let the cakes cool completely before removing them from the pans.
  3. For the Filling:
    • In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with the powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
    • Add the vanilla extract and milk and continue mixing until the filling is light and fluffy.
  4. Assembling the Cake:
    • Once the cakes have cooled, spread a generous layer of the filling on top of one of the cake layers.
    • Place the second cake layer on top and gently press down to sandwich the filling.
  5. For the Chocolate Glaze:
    • In a small saucepan, melt the chocolate chips and butter over low heat, stirring frequently until smooth.
    • Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the heavy cream to make a smooth, glossy glaze.
  6. Pour the chocolate glaze over the top of the assembled cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
  7. Let the glaze set before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • If you prefer a less sweet filling, reduce the amount of powdered sugar slightly.
  • You can decorate the top with shaved chocolate, sprinkles, or chopped nuts for added texture and flavor.
  • The cake can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
