Description

These Non-Spooky Black Cat Cupcakes are a delightful Halloween treat featuring a cute and fun design that’s perfect for all ages. With easy-to-follow decorating steps, these cupcakes are ideal for Halloween parties or festive family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box of cake mix (chocolate or vanilla), prepared according to instructions (or homemade if preferred)
  • Chocolate icing
  • Chocolate sprinkles
  • Butterscotch chips (for the nose)
  • Yellow fondant (or yellow Smarties or M&Ms for the eyes)
  • Chocolate taffy (or Tootsie Rolls, slightly warmed and rolled flat, for the ears)
  • Extra chocolate sprinkles for the eyes

Instructions

  • Prepare the Cupcakes:
    • Bake the cupcakes using the cake mix or homemade recipe according to the package or recipe instructions. Allow to cool completely.
  • Frost the Cupcakes:
    • Frost the cooled cupcakes with a generous layer of chocolate icing.
  • Add “Fur” with Sprinkles:
    • Sprinkle chocolate sprinkles over the frosted cupcakes to cover them completely, mimicking a cat’s fur.
  • Create the Eyes:
    • Roll small balls of yellow fondant or use yellow Smarties/M&Ms for the eyes. Flatten and attach to the cupcakes with a dot of icing. Add a chocolate sprinkle in the center for pupils.
  • Add the Nose:
    • Use a butterscotch chip for the nose, attaching it below the eyes with a small dot of icing.
  • Shape the Ears:
    • Soften a Tootsie Roll or chocolate taffy, roll it flat, and cut into triangles for the ears. Attach to the top of the cupcakes.
  • Final Touches:
    • Ensure all decorations are secure. Optionally, add whiskers with thin lines of icing.

Notes

  • If using fondant, ensure it’s soft enough to shape easily.
  • For a more pronounced “fur” effect, use a generous amount of chocolate sprinkles.
