Description

Halloween Pinwheel Cookies are festive and colorful treats featuring vibrant green and purple swirls. Perfect for adding a spooky touch to your Halloween festivities, these cookies are not only visually appealing but also delicious with a buttery flavor.

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • Salt
  • Unsalted butter, softened
  • Granulated sugar
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla extract
  • Gel food coloring (green and purple recommended)

Instructions

  • Make the Dough:
    • Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until fluffy.
    • Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
    • Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the butter mixture until well combined.
  • Divide and Color the Dough:
    • Divide the dough into two equal portions.
    • Add green gel food coloring to one portion and purple to the other. Knead until the colors are evenly distributed.
    • Wrap each portion in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Roll the Dough:
    • Roll each colored dough portion into a rectangle on a floured surface.
    • Layer the green dough on top of the purple dough and lightly roll them together.
    • Trim the edges to make straight lines and carefully roll the dough into a log shape.
    • Wrap the log in plastic wrap and refrigerate for another hour.
  • Slice and Bake:
    • Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C).
    • Slice the dough log into 1/4 to 1/2-inch thick rounds and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
    • Bake for 13-15 minutes, or until set. Let the cookies cool on the sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Ensure the dough is well chilled to avoid spreading and maintain the pinwheel effect.
  • Use a serrated knife for cleaner cuts.
