Description

These Old-Fashioned Soft Molasses Cookies are perfectly spiced and delightfully chewy. A classic treat that’s great any time of year!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the molasses and egg, mixing until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, spices, and salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until edges are set. Let cool on a wire rack.

Notes

For a softer cookie, do not overbake.
