Description

A low-carb twist on the classic Flying Dutchman burger, wrapped in thick grilled onion slices instead of a bun, loaded with juicy beef and melted cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large onions, sliced into 1/2-inch thick rings
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese (or American cheese)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
  • Optional toppings: pickles, mustard, mayo

Instructions

  1. Preheat grill or skillet over medium heat.
  2. Separate onion rings carefully and select the largest rings for wrapping.
  3. Brush onion rings lightly with olive oil and grill or pan-fry until softened and slightly charred, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  4. Form ground beef into 4 patties, season with salt and pepper.
  5. Cook patties on the grill or skillet for 3-4 minutes per side or until desired doneness.
  6. Place a slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.
  7. Assemble the burger by wrapping each patty with two grilled onion rings (one on top and one on bottom) instead of a bun.
  8. Add optional toppings as desired and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use large sweet onions like Vidalia for milder flavor.
  • Perfect for keto or low-carb diets.
  • Can be served with a side salad or crispy fries.
