Description
A low-carb twist on the classic Flying Dutchman burger, wrapped in thick grilled onion slices instead of a bun, loaded with juicy beef and melted cheese.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large onions, sliced into 1/2-inch thick rings
- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 slices cheddar cheese (or American cheese)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
- Optional toppings: pickles, mustard, mayo
Instructions
- Preheat grill or skillet over medium heat.
- Separate onion rings carefully and select the largest rings for wrapping.
- Brush onion rings lightly with olive oil and grill or pan-fry until softened and slightly charred, about 4-5 minutes per side.
- Form ground beef into 4 patties, season with salt and pepper.
- Cook patties on the grill or skillet for 3-4 minutes per side or until desired doneness.
- Place a slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.
- Assemble the burger by wrapping each patty with two grilled onion rings (one on top and one on bottom) instead of a bun.
- Add optional toppings as desired and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use large sweet onions like Vidalia for milder flavor.
- Perfect for keto or low-carb diets.
- Can be served with a side salad or crispy fries.
