Ingredients
For the Base:
-
1 box yellow cake mix (or any vanilla cake mix)
-
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
-
1 egg
For the Filling:
-
8 oz cream cheese, softened
-
2 cups powdered sugar
-
2 large eggs
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
-
1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
-
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper. -
Prepare the Base:
In a medium mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, melted butter, and egg. Stir until a thick dough forms. Press the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the base. -
Make the Filling:
In a large mixing bowl, beat together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, melted butter, and salt until smooth and creamy. -
Assemble the Bars:
Pour the cream cheese filling over the cake base and spread it evenly with a spatula. -
Bake:
Bake the bars in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the top is lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean, but still slightly gooey. The center will set as the bars cool. -
Cool and Slice:
Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares. They will firm up as they cool, creating that ooey gooey texture. -
Serve and Enjoy:
Once cooled, slice into bars and serve. Enjoy the rich, buttery goodness!
Notes
-
These bars can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
-
For a variation, you can add chocolate chips or chopped nuts to the filling or base for extra texture and flavor.
-
For an even gooier texture, reduce the baking time slightly, but make sure the center is not overly raw.
