Description

These Ooey Gooey Bars are the ultimate dessert for anyone who loves rich, buttery, and indulgent treats! With a soft, chewy base and a gooey, sweet filling, these bars are the perfect combination of textures. They’re simple to make and are a crowd-pleaser at any event, from family gatherings to bake sales. You won’t be able to stop at just one!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Base:

  • 1 box yellow cake mix (or any vanilla cake mix)

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 egg

For the Filling:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.

  2. Prepare the Base:
In a medium mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, melted butter, and egg. Stir until a thick dough forms. Press the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the base.

  3. Make the Filling:
In a large mixing bowl, beat together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, melted butter, and salt until smooth and creamy.

  4. Assemble the Bars:
Pour the cream cheese filling over the cake base and spread it evenly with a spatula.

  5. Bake:
Bake the bars in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the top is lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean, but still slightly gooey. The center will set as the bars cool.

  6. Cool and Slice:
Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares. They will firm up as they cool, creating that ooey gooey texture.

  7. Serve and Enjoy:
Once cooled, slice into bars and serve. Enjoy the rich, buttery goodness!

Notes

  • These bars can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

  • For a variation, you can add chocolate chips or chopped nuts to the filling or base for extra texture and flavor.

  • For an even gooier texture, reduce the baking time slightly, but make sure the center is not overly raw.
