Description

These Orange and Cinnamon Cookies are the perfect treat for any occasion! The combination of zesty orange and warm cinnamon creates a comforting flavor that’s irresistible. With a light, crisp texture and a sweet aroma, these cookies are sure to become a family favorite. Whether you’re baking for the holidays or just in the mood for something citrusy and spiced, these cookies will hit the spot!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup icing sugar
  • 3 tbsp cornflour (corn starch)
  • Finely grated orange peel (from 1 medium orange)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  • Mix Butter and Sugar:
In a large bowl, combine the softened butter, icing sugar, and finely grated orange peel. Mix together until light and pale.
  • Add Dry Ingredients:
Sift the flour, cornflour (cornstarch), cinnamon powder, and salt into the bowl with the butter mixture. Mix until a dough begins to form. I recommend using your hands to knead and combine the dough thoroughly. Take your time—this step may take a few minutes, but the dough will eventually come together.
  • Roll and Chill the Dough:
Lightly flour your work surface. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin until it’s about 1/4 inch thick. Use a fork to gently scrape the dough on top, adding texture. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to firm it up.
  • Cut the Cookies:
Once chilled, remove the dough from the fridge. Use the fork to scrape the dough once again. Then, use a cookie cutter of your choice to cut out the dough into shapes. Place the cookies on a lined baking tray.
  • Bake the Cookies:
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the cookies for about 15 minutes, or until they turn slightly golden brown at the edges. Keep a close eye on them to avoid overbaking. Let them cool on the tray for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Be sure to let the dough chill to make it easier to handle and to ensure the cookies hold their shape while baking.
  • If you prefer a more intense orange flavor, feel free to increase the amount of grated orange peel slightly.
  • Store these cookies in an airtight container for up to a week, or freeze them for later enjoyment.
