Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Cabbage Buns:

    • 8 large cabbage leaves, outer leaves removed

    • 1 tablespoon olive oil

    • Salt and pepper to taste

    For the Beef Patties:

    • 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey/chicken for a lighter option)

    • 1 small onion, finely chopped

    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

    • Salt and pepper to taste

    Toppings (Optional):

    • Sliced tomatoes

    • Sliced pickles

    • Sliced cheese (Swiss, cheddar, or your choice)

    • Lettuce

    • Mustard or ketchup

Instructions

  1. For the Cabbage Buns:

    1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

    2. Cut 8 large leaves from the cabbage, ensuring they are large enough to wrap around the burger patties.

    3. Remove the thick stem from each cabbage leaf to make them easier to fold.

    4. Brush the cabbage leaves with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.

    5. Arrange the cabbage leaves on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until tender and slightly crispy around the edges. Remove from the oven and set aside.

    For the Beef Patties:

    1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

    2. Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.

    3. Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side or until cooked through and golden brown on both sides. If you want to add cheese, place a slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.

    Assembling the Cabbage Burgers:

    1. Place a cooked beef patty on one cabbage leaf.

    2. Top with your desired toppings, such as tomato slices, pickles, lettuce, and mustard or ketchup.

    3. Place another cabbage leaf on top to close the burger.

    4. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • If the cabbage leaves are too large, you can cut them to fit your patties.

  • For extra crunch, you can lightly sauté the cabbage leaves in a skillet before baking.

  • You can also make these burgers with turkey or chicken for a leaner option.

  • Experiment with different toppings to customize your cabbage burger to your taste.
