Description

This Panda Express Chow Mein is a homemade version of the popular restaurant dish, featuring stir-fried noodles tossed in a savory sauce with vegetables for a delicious and easy-to-make meal. Perfect as a side dish or a main course, this recipe brings the signature flavors of Panda Express right to your kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 medium Onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup Carrots, julienned or thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup Cabbage, shredded
  • 1/2 cup Bell Pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 1 pack (7 oz) Chow Mein Noodles (fresh or dry)
  • 2 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Oyster Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Hoisin Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Sesame Oil
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste
  • 23 Green Onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Noodles:
    • If using fresh chow mein noodles, follow package instructions to blanch them in boiling water for 1-2 minutes, then drain and set aside.
    • If using dry noodles, cook them according to package instructions, then drain and rinse under cold water to stop the cooking process. Set aside.
  2. Stir-Fry the Vegetables:
    • Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
    • Add the sliced onion, carrots, cabbage, and bell pepper (if using). Stir-fry for 3-5 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender but still crisp.
  3. Cook the Garlic:
    • Add the minced garlic to the skillet with the vegetables and stir-fry for another 30 seconds, being careful not to burn the garlic.
  4. Combine the Noodles:
    • Add the cooked chow mein noodles to the skillet with the vegetables. Toss everything together so the noodles are evenly distributed among the vegetables.
  5. Make the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, and sugar. Stir to combine until the sugar dissolves.
  6. Toss the Noodles:
    • Pour the sauce over the noodles and vegetables. Toss the mixture together, ensuring the noodles are well-coated in the sauce. Stir-fry for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the noodles to absorb the sauce and heat through.
  7. Garnish and Serve:
    • Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
    • Garnish with chopped green onions before serving. Enjoy your homemade Panda Express Chow Mein!
