Pasta Bolognese is a classic Italian dish featuring a rich, slow-simmered meat sauce made with ground beef, tomatoes, and aromatic herbs, served over al dente pasta. It’s a hearty, comforting favorite perfect for family dinners.

- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 carrot, finely diced
- 1 celery stalk, finely diced
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup dry red wine (optional)
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 12 oz pasta (tagliatelle or spaghetti)
- Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, carrot, and celery. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
- If using, pour in red wine and simmer until mostly evaporated.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, oregano, and basil. Season with salt and pepper.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer the sauce uncovered for 45 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
- Meanwhile, cook pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Serve the Bolognese sauce over the pasta and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
Notes
- For richer flavor, simmer the sauce longer, up to 2 hours.
- Use fresh herbs if available for a brighter taste.
- Pair with a crisp green salad and garlic bread.
- Leftovers taste great reheated the next day.
