Description

Pasta Bolognese is a classic Italian dish featuring a rich, slow-simmered meat sauce made with ground beef, tomatoes, and aromatic herbs, served over al dente pasta. It’s a hearty, comforting favorite perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 carrot, finely diced
  • 1 celery stalk, finely diced
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine (optional)
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 12 oz pasta (tagliatelle or spaghetti)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, carrot, and celery. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
  3. If using, pour in red wine and simmer until mostly evaporated.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, oregano, and basil. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Reduce heat to low and simmer the sauce uncovered for 45 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  6. Meanwhile, cook pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  7. Serve the Bolognese sauce over the pasta and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.

Notes

  • For richer flavor, simmer the sauce longer, up to 2 hours.
  • Use fresh herbs if available for a brighter taste.
  • Pair with a crisp green salad and garlic bread.
  • Leftovers taste great reheated the next day.
